Bury College have treated care home residents to a series of arts and crafts workshops.

Four groups of textiles and fine art students attended Rose Court care home in Radcliffe with one student being the leader of each group.

They had to produce workshop ideas and plan and delegate to their group as well as communicate with members of staff about materials.

The idea was to help students develop organisation, planning, communication and confidence skills whilst giving back to the local community.

At the Water Street care home, they had to explain and demonstrate the tasks to the residents before guiding and assisting them through the workshops.

Senior technician in art and media at the college, Katherine Marsh, was delighted with how the visit went.

She said: “It really helped to give the students a confidence boost and gave them another perspective when it comes to making art together.

“The care home staff and residents commented on their hard work and great behaviour and were delighted with everything they produced.

“It has given the students some great work-related experience and granted us an ongoing community relationship with the residents.”

Some of the finished work will now be on display in the care home.

Their work includes t-shirts, bags, batik paintings, tea towels alongside stamp paintings and some fabric strip weavings.

Rose Court home manager Leanne Batten-Smith added: "The students helped create a really fun atmosphere.

“It was great to see different generations socialising and mixing. To see the finished artwork at the end was also amazing."
